The Chocolate Apocalypse chilli (often called Apocalypse Scorpion Chocolate) is another brutal “super‑hot” pepper, very similar in intensity and appearance to the Carolina Reaper, but with its own darker, more sinister look.

Colour: Ripens to a deep chocolate, brown (almost blackish in some lighting).

Shape: Usually small to medium (around 5–6 cm / ~2–2.5 inches). Often irregular and lumpy, like other ultra‑hot chinense peppers.

Texture: Very wrinkled, bumpy, and “gnarly”a classic super‑hot look. Frequently ends in a curved “scorpion” tail/stinger, similar to Reaper‑type peppers.

It looks like a dark brown, crumpled chilli with a twisted surface and a pointed tail, giving it a pretty aggressive, almost “mutant” appearance.

Typical range: ~1,200,000 to 1,600,000 SHU

It firmly sits in the super‑hot category (well over 1 million SHU).

It’s broadly in the same league as the Carolina Reaper, though usually a bit lower on average.

Species: Capsicum chinense (same family as Reaper, ghost pepper, etc.)

Origin: bred in Italy, combining genetics from extremely hot types like Reaper, Moruga Scorpion, and ghost pepper strains.

Flavour (before the burn):

Slightly fruity and earthy

Often described as smoky and rich due to the “chocolate” variant.
