Description

The Mustard Reaper is a rare superhot chilli derived from the famous Carolina Reaper, selected for its distinctive mustard-yellow coloration rather than the typical bright red.

Appearance

Pods typically mature to a rich mustard-yellow or yellow-brown colour, often with olive or caramel undertones.

The surface is heavily wrinkled and bumpy, giving it a rugged, almost molten appearance.

Most pods develop a pronounced stinger tail, although tail length can vary.

Fruits are generally 4–7 cm (1.5–3 inches) long and have thick, oily walls characteristic of superhot peppers.

Flavour

Despite its extreme heat, the Mustard Reaper offers a surprisingly complex flavour:

Sweet, fruity opening notes.

Earthy and slightly smoky mustard-pepper undertones.

Hints of tropical fruit, citrus, and floral aromas.

A richer, more savory profile than many red superhots.

Heat

Typically ranges from 1.2 to over 2 million Scoville Heat Units (SHU).

Comparable to or slightly below the hottest examples of the Carolina Reaper.

The burn is intense and fast-building, beginning in the mouth and spreading through the throat with a long-lasting, powerful heat.

Plant Characteristics

Plants usually grow 90–150 cm (3–5 feet) tall.

Highly productive under warm conditions.

Produce numerous pendant pods that ripen from green through various olive shades before reaching their final mustard color.

Uses

Premium hot sauces.

Superhot chilli powders and flakes.

Extreme heat challenges.

Specially breeding projects due to its unusual coloration and genetics.

The Mustard Reaper is prized among chilli enthusiasts for combining the fearsome heat of a Reaper-type pepper with a unique mustard colour and a deeper, earthier flavour profile than many red superhots.
