Description

The RCC 420 Moruga chilli is a super-hot chilli cultivar associated with the broader Moruga Scorpion and Trinidad Scorpion lineage, bred and selected for extreme heat and intense flavour.

It typically produces small, knobbly, lantern- or scorpion-shaped pods that ripen from green to a deep red or sometimes orange/red depending on selection. Like other Moruga-type peppers, it sits firmly in the “superhot” category, often exceeding 1 million Scoville Heat Units (SHU), with some strains pushing significantly higher under ideal growing conditions.

In terms of flavour, the RCC 420 Moruga type is typically described as:

Fruity and slightly citrusy at first bite

Quickly overtaken by a slow-building, crushing heat

Long-lasting burn that can linger for 10–20 minutes or more

The plant itself is usually fairly vigorous, growing as a compact bush that produces heavy yields in warm conditions. The pods are very oily inside, with thick placental tissue—one reason they deliver such intense heat.

Like many modern “designer superhots,” the “RCC 420” label is generally used by breeders or growers to indicate a particular selection line rather than a formally standardise variety, so heat and exact pod shape can vary between seed sources.

The underlying genetics are closely tied to the Moruga Scorpion lineage, which is one of the most notorious chilli families in the world for raw pungency and delayed, escalating burn.
