Description

The Chocolate Primotalii chilli is a rare superhot cultivar from the Primotalii lineage, developed through selective hybridisation involving some of the world’s hottest pepper genetics. It’s known for combining extreme heat with a dark, rich colouring when fully ripe.

The pods typically mature from green to a deep chocolate brown shade, sometimes with a slightly reddish undertone depending on growing conditions. They are usually elongated, heavily wrinkled, and often twist or curl irregularly, an appearance that reflects the unstable, hybrid nature of the Primotalii group.

In terms of heat, it sits in the extreme superhot range, commonly estimated around 1.5–2+ million Scoville Heat Units (SHU), placing it alongside peppers like the Carolina Reaper and other top-tier cultivars. The heat tends to build quickly and linger, with a strong capsaicin burn that can feel both sharp and sustained.

Flavour-wise, before the heat takes over, it often has a fruity, slightly earthy profile, with some growers reporting a subtle “dark cocoa” or smoky note hence the “chocolate” name, though it doesn’t taste like chocolate in a literal sense.

The plants are typically vigorous but inconsistent in shape and yield, as is common with unstable superhot hybrids. They require warm growing conditions, long seasons, and careful feeding to fully develop their pods.

Overall, the Chocolate Primotalii is mainly grown by chilli enthusiasts rather than commercial producers, valued more for its extreme heat and unusual appearance than for culinary use.
