Description

The Yellow Scorpion chilli is a striking variety of scorpion pepper known for its bright yellow colour, intense heat, and fruity flavour.

Appearance

Pods typically ripen from green to a vibrant lemon-yellow or golden-yellow.

They have a wrinkled, bumpy surface with the characteristic “scorpion tail” point at the end, although the tail can vary in length and shape.

Most pods are 4–6 cm long and have thick walls for a superhot pepper.

Heat

Extremely hot, usually ranging from 800,000 to over 1.4 million Scoville Heat Units (SHU), depending on the strain and growing conditions.

The burn starts quickly and builds intensely, often producing a strong facial and throat heat.

Flavour

Distinctly fruity and citrusy compared to many red superhots.

Often described as having notes of lemon, tropical fruit, and floral sweetness before the heat takes over.

The bright flavour makes it popular in yellow hot sauces and fruit-based salsas.

Plant Characteristics

Plants are generally vigorous and productive, reaching 90–150 cm in height.

They produce large numbers of pods throughout the growing season.

Like other superhots, they prefer warm temperatures, full sun, and a long growing season.

Uses

Hot sauces

Powder and flakes

Superhot salsas

Extreme heat challenges

Adding fruity heat to marinades and chutneys

The Yellow Scorpion combines the brutal heat of a scorpion pepper with one of the most pleasant flavour profiles among the superhot chillies, making it a favourite among chilli enthusiasts who enjoy both heat and taste.
